Whers canon in books
vs. Arisen Dark:
So, before going into whers in more depth, detailing out how our whers are different from the later more wher-involved DRoP books seems like a good idea. As we are the official sequel of Dark Fort which was the sister site of Arolos Weyr, we will be keeping continuity intact and will be using the canon on whers that Arolos decided on. And since Arolos was incorporating whers into their Weyr before either Ms. McCaffrey or her son wrote the newer books that involved whers more, where the newer books conflict with wher canon in Ms. McCaffrey's first books that mention whers we are staying with the Arolos canon about whers.
That being said, there are 3 main differences between book canon and Arisen Dark canon, involving flying, flaming, and wher-speech:
Flying: While whers do have wings, they are only used in wher-to-wher communication as well as aiding balance and speed. Their wings are too small and are incapable of lifting them off the ground, even when they are whelps. So, our game's whers are flightless.
Flaming: Whers are also incapable of flaming.
Wher-speech: Like dragons, all whers speak telepathically. It is the extent of their communication and intelligence that is determined by if they are impressed or bonded, as well as the breed of wher (Wild, Lilacape, or Half Wild/Half Lilacape). In general, wher-speech is clipped and direct with whers placing a heavy emphasis on the most pronounced or simplest of the syllables contained in a word. Whers are also unable to understand the concept of personal pronouns, meaning that a wher will refer to himself and others by their names and will also shorten names with multiple syllables (although they do not elide their partner's name like dragons to). All of this results in whers speaking in short and simple sentences that often seem childish. The thing about Lilacape wher-speech is that they are more fluent as well as being more likely to speak to someone besides their partner.
Example of Wher-speech:
Blaize placed herself between the unknown person and her 'Lesha, with her short wings raised in a threatening manner and a growl of challenge escaping her snout before she said {{'Lize not know. Stranger! Go way from 'Lesha.}}
