Rank Info and Limitations
Below, is a brief description of the characters that we consider ranking characters, as well as rules and information about those ranks. For suggestions on roleplaying these ranking characters, as well as a little more information on how those characters are viewed in this world, see the 'What To Do With Your Ranker?' page.
Hear All Dragons (HAD): There is a limit of one of these in the Weyr at one time. When we're ready to have one in the game, we'll put out a call for character sheets. An HAD persona can hear and make him/herself heard by any dragon within range, whether the dragon likes it or not. An HAD may be male or female, rider or nonrider. For the sake of fairness, the persona may not be a goldrider, and the character sheet will have to be utterly spectacular if it's a bronzerider.
Weyrwoman/Weywomensecond/Junior Weyrwoman: Gold Only. Weyrwomansecond picked by Weyrwomen, and it is possible the Weyrwoman could change the Weyrwomansecond (when there is sufficient extra golds to be able to have other choices that is).
Weyrleader/Weyrsecond: Bronze only. Weyrsecond picked upon Weyrleader taking his position from Weyrwoman’s goldflight. Weyrsecond might possibly a former Weyrleader himself, but not required.
Headwoman: Women only. Minimum 30 Turns of age, older preferred.
Wingleaders: Bronze only. Must have at least eight Turns of experience as a full dragonrider, meaning at least twenty-two Turns old, but few will be this young.
Weyrlingmaster: Bronze or brown. Must have at least eight Turns of experience as a full dragonrider, more preferred.
Candidatemaster: Bronze or brown. Must have at least eight Turns of experience as a full dragonrider, more preferred.
Master of any Craft: Male, at least 30 Turns of age. No female master will be assigned to Fort Hold or Weyr. The CraftMasters, heads of the Crafts, are BoD-NPCs, and may not be adopted by players at this time. Ask if you would like to use one. (When enough dragonhealers are active, we will take applications for the Masterdragonhealer. A notice will be put on the front page and OOC list at that time.)
Hear All Firelizards/Whers (HAF, HAW): There's a limit of one each in the Weyr, and just like the HAD’s when we're ready to have one in the game, we'll put out a call for character sheets. They're a lesser rank than HAD, and may be goldriders. They will require a good character sheet and a short (300 words minimum) essay on what you plan to do with their powers. Yes, an essay. Told you you're nuts.
Assistant Headwomen/Stewards: Minimum 25 Turns of age.
Wingseconds: Bronzes, some browns. Must have at least six Turns of experience as a full dragonrider, except in emergencies. This means they must be at least twenty Turns old, but few will be this young. There are two Wingseconds per Wing.
Assistant Weyrlingmasters (AWLMs): Bronze or brown. Must have at least six Turns of experience as a full dragonrider. The number of these is at the discretion of the current Weyrlingmaster. OOCly, talk to him or her and find out if he or she is taking assistants.
Assistant Candidatemaster (ACM): Bronze or brown. Must have at least six Turns of experience as a full dragonrider. Like the Assistant Weyrlingmasters, the number of ACMs is at the discretion of the senior Candidatemaster.
Special note: We will be accepting one nonriding female assistant Candidatemaster to serve as a mothering figure for the Candidates and to ensure the Female candidates learn how to be proper women. She will have rank as long as she does not get "uppity" and makes sure the girls are proper.
Bronzerider: Males only. At this time we only allow five bronzeriders per writer. Should an exception to that rule be made it will be at BoD discretion and most likely for a Plot. Bronze dragons are given out to those who have been active and playing at Arisen Dark: Fort Weyr or our previous incarnation Dark Fort for six months to a year. You may use adoptable bronzeridrers as part of your allowed five, create them over time, or impress them, however we will not generally approve more than one bronzerider per year towards those five allowed.
Journeyman Healers: Must be at least 20 Turns old with 8 Turns as an apprentice. These, as well as Journeyman Harpers, are restricted mainly because they are a popular character type, but are needed for the functioning of the Weyr so we would like them to be active. They may be male or female, though females will be less trusted by their patients, more rare, and probably given nearly as hard a time as a female greenrider. We'll take as many Dragonhealers as we can get.
Journeyman Harpers: Must be at least 19 Turns old with 7 Turns as an apprentice.
Gold weyrling: Must be at least 15 Turns old.
Bronze weyrling: Must be at least 12 Turns old.
Female blue and greenriders: Yes, this is a rank here. They are rare. Out of a Wing of thirty, no more than three greenriders and one bluerider may be female. If the female rider slots in the current Wings are full, you'll have to wait until either a slot or a new Wing opens.
Wher handlers: Wher-handler: A person impressed or bonded to a wher must ICly be no younger than 16 (male) or 18 (female). However, with BoD approval the occasionally approved person younger than 16 or 18 can impress a wher. So in those cases the OOC rule is that chromatics can be impressed/bonded to as young as 12 and metallics can be impressed/bonded to as young as 13 as long as the 12 or 13 turn old actually shows that they seem like they are mature enough to handle a wher- just be prepared for consequences for your character breaking an IC rule. These ages are for any type of wher, although there are certain things that will be specific for each type of wher (wild, 50/50, or full Lilacape).
Whers are not pets in the North. Lilacape are hard to come by, so most whers are the less bright, more vicious traditional variety. Wher-handlers are trained professionals who care for and command the whers that guard the Weyr and holds, as opposed to someone who has another profession but impresses/bonds to a wher. They must be strong of will and strong enough of body to handle the massive beasts. They are never candidates, although impressing a wher as a rider is possible, and after impression/bonding the new wher-pair goes through a harsh and strict training program. They may be cross-crafters from such Crafts as Beasthealing, Herding, or Dragonhealing, or Guarding. A handler may work with whers not bonded to him, as well.
With Fort’s skeptical view of whers, even any newly arrived wher-pairs (no matter their age) will be put under probation. If they are not a rider they will live in the guard’s barracks for 3 months while the WW/WL and guards determine if the wher is properly trained and safe to be around people. If the wher is Impressed/Bonded to a rider the wher should be kept in the weyr as much as possible (preferably chained or caged) for those 3 months until the wher’s training and safety level can be determined. If the wher is decided to be too untrained for the relative safety of the people of the weyr, the wher and his handler will be required to spend time training the wher. If the behavior is still unchanged after extra training, the WW and WL will decide if/what extra measures need to be taken to ensure everyone’s safety...this includes if needed up to and including putting the wher down.
Firelizard/Wher: Because of their rarity in Fort territory, an explanation of how the character got the firelizard or wher must be included in the persona sheet. Unless you can come up with a credible story, only high ranking characters will have a gold firelizard or wher, as theirs is the only egg out of a clutch that you can guarantee the color flit.
