Headwoman Vorri
Played By: Arisen Dark BoD
Character Name: Vorri
Pronunciation: vor ri
Character Type: Staff
Rank: Headwoman
Political Alignment: Traditional
Age: 49
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Appearance:
She isn’t very much to look at in truth and is rather unremarkable. She is rather average in height, but has a bit more weight on her than she probably should. That isn’t to say she is overly fat, but her appearance does lend itself to her life of having several children in between her various duties. Her hair is a rather bland brown color that she keeps to about her mid shoulder blades in length, but when she’s on duty, or even just outside of her room, she keeps it pulled back in a thong to keep it out of her way. Her eyes are really the only remarkable part of this woman, them being a rather pretty hazel, but with the frown she usually has set on her face it doesn’t actually do much to help her looks. Her skin isn’t very tanned since Vorri spends more of her time running around the tunnels and storerooms, but it is usually a bit red from the fires in the kitchen as she tend to spend at least some time there anytime there is a meal to prepare.
Personality:
Vorri is a very traditional woman despite her mother’s attempts to encourage her otherwise when she was young. She is rather happy to have stepped into the position of Headwoman and plans to do her best to bring things back into proper order in her lower caverns. She doesn’t care if she is well liked or not as this is her place to fix now and she is going to make sure those under her know how things *should* be. She is actually rather glad to see the way the new Weyrwoman is taking things and is all too willing to help make it happen however she can.
Birthplace: Fort Weyr
Parents: Mother - ???, Crafter Father - ???, Greenrider
History:
Her mother was a crafter stationed at Fort Weyr who met up with a not-so-into-women greenrider who only ended up being with her mother because she ran into him when he was trying to get to the flight rooms when his green was rising. Her mother claimed rape, but this is a Weyr- and Fort Weyr at that- so her mother was the one who got the reprimand instead of the greenrider. When her mother later found out she was pregnant she immediately requested a transfer, but it was put off long enough for Vorri to be born in Fort Weyr.
Her first turns weren’t much to look at beyond a near tug of war between her parents as they each tried to teach her the proper way of things, but it was her father that won- well him and the crèche workers. When her mother realized she had lost Vorri to the traditional side of things she resubmitted for a transfer and it was granted nearly immediately. Left behind Vorri was rather displeased with her mother’s leaving, but she got over it soon enough when she realized that it wasn’t like she lost too much by losing a mother who wasn’t even any sort of proper.
When she turned twelve Vorri moved to the kitchens and spent the next fifteen turns as a simple cook until the day the Head Cook passed away in her sleep. It was a very close call, but at twenty seven Vorri was given the position of Head Cook and proceeded to excel in her new position and work as a leader of the lower caverns. There were brief whispers from some that maybe she should have been a candidate and should have tried for a gold, but when she informed those who asked her that her place was the kitchens those whispers were soon dropped. Sadly she took up her new position just in time for thread to make its return and she was forced, more than once, to deal with a crying cook after one rider or another died that was their father/brother/lover. After the first turn of the ‘noise’ she couldn’t help looking down on those other girls. They were here to do a job, just as the riders were, and if they couldn’t get past their feelings and realize that thread killed... well she wouldn’t be the one dealing with their burns now would she?
She made her opinion of those ‘soft’ woman known well and the others learned not to come to her over a lost relative, especially when no one even saw her flinch at the news of the death of her own father. Vorri would not show them weakness so while she mourned her dead father she saved it for after she was alone in her rooms for the night. But she came back the next day even more determined to see the emotional weakness stamped out.
Needless to say, when Vorri was promoted nearly nine turns ago no one was the least bothered by the fact and many were rather happy with the change in truth. While Vorri had hoped her new position as Assistant Headwoman would give her more ability in her ‘quest’ to get things properly in shape it didn't take long before she found out she didn’t have nearly as much power as she had thought she would. This was not at all what she wanted and she once more became an even harsher person. It was also around this time that the frown became a near permanent fixture on her face as she watched things happen that she couldn’t stop or help. The rather harsh death of the girl from the lower caverns a few short turns later weighed heavily on her and she couldn’t help wondering if she couldn’t have somehow prevented it.
It was nearly a turn ago now when she once more found herself promoted, only this time to the position of Headwoman when the previous Headwoman fell sick of an unknown illness. Or rather unknown at the time because it was later discovered, after the previous Headwoman was transferred south in hopes that the heat would help her heal more quickly, that she had been bit. While it wasn’t known at the time, the previous Headwoman was a ‘test’ for the radicals and their tunnelsnakes since they tried to figure out which ones were the most poisonous. This was not a well thought out plan though because while it took out the previous Headwoman, they got one in her place that was rather harsh and very traditional; not part of their plan to say the least. It was after finding out about the snakes that Vorri decided she had to do something to try and protect the lower caverns from the growing population of the deadly pests and picked up a trained canine. She even went so far as to allow more people to have trained canines of their own, after all the more canines there were hunting these lethal snakes then the safer the lower caverns would be on a whole.
It has been a long and hard road over these last months to get where she is now, but she can honestly say things appear to be looking up finally. The death of the two Golds and the Weyrleader was hard and harsh, but she’s heard things about the new Weyrwoman and she thinks the change is going to be good for her home and her lower caverns.
~~Pet~~
Pet name: Dark
Type: Canine
Gender: Male
Appearance:
A smaller thing he was originally adopted by Vorri a turn ago to help keep Tunnelsnakes out of the kitchens and storerooms. He stands about as tall as a larger man’s hand with a slim body and short darkly color coat. There isn’t much remarkable about him in truth, but he is there to do a job so Vorri doesn’t care about his looks.
Personality:
He was about four months old when his human got him and had been trained since birthing to be a hunter. He was bred and trained to hunt ‘Snakes and he is good at it. Some may manage to escape him, but he will track any he gets the scent of and like a loyal canine will take their dead bodies back to Vorri for the praise he knows is waiting for him. He has never had much in the way of play beyond as a very young puppy and has always been treated as a working dog both of which show. He is rather serious for a canine and about the only time he comes even close to being what we on Terra think of as typical for a canine is when he gets a pet or a less harsh word of praise from his human for his latest dead ‘Snake.
