L'nix and Brown Slarkenth
Played By: Shinimegami
Character Name: L'nix
Pronounced: LEE-nicks
Character Type: Dragonrider
Rank: Wingrider
Political Alignment: Neutral
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Appearance:
L'nix isn't as imposing of a young man as he thinks he is. He's not exactly scrawny -- more like dead average for his age -- but life has treated him softly, especially in comparison to many of the more rough-and-tumble boys of the Weyr, and it shows. He hasn't been at the Weyr long enough to sport the toned physique of some, and while he's healthy enough, his muscles aren't as clearly defined on his frame. Given time and work, he'll develop a strong, muscular physique, but that's still a couple of turns away. When that time comes they'll work nicely with his rather strong jaw, straight nose, and serious brown eyes to give him a rather severe look -- but probably only after his thick blond curls get shaved down to stubble, too.
Personality:
L'nix takes care of himself. He's arrogant enough to feel entitled, though whether this is because of his upbringing or simply because of his inflated opinion of his own intellect and ability is hard to say. That sense of entitlement, though, is what has apparently demagnetized his moral compass. Because he's entitled to whatever he wants, then that clearly means that nothing he does in pursuit of those ends can truly be *wrong*. He doesn't care if feelings are hurt, bodies are injured, or careers are destroyed, so long as he wins in the end. In fact, he'll even actively seek to do harm if he thinks it will benefit him, or if it will punish someone for crossing him. No one gets away with thwarting him. No one.
He eagerly awaited his bronze, firmly believing that only those who are brave enough to take risks and make them pay off are truly worthy of a leadership role. In the end, though, L'nix Impressed brown Slarkenth. He immediately saw the advantage to being a brownrider- yes, he'd have to routinely take orders from bronzeriders, or at least appear to, but blues and greens were now his to control.
L'nix has a way of turning every event to his advantage, even if it means jumping ship politically and signing on with former enemies. Like a chameleon, he can blend in wherever he needs to if it means his own survival... but you would do well to remember that, no matter what color he wears, he's still the same chameleon.
Birth Place: Ruatha Hold
Parents: Leoret and Sanla
History:
L'nix was born Leonix. His father was a man who started out as a beancounting under-steward of sorts and worked his way up, and into the Lord Holder's good graces, enough to earn himself greater rank and some status of his own. He taught Leonix, the only son out of his several children, the same values: work hard, be ruthless, cheat if you have to, and you'll go places. Leonix himself was spoiled by both parents in some respects, and starved in others -- he could have whatever he wanted, more or less, provided he continued to achieve and didn't do anything to annoy them. Unsurprisingly, he learned the value of etiquette and charm right alongside the value of cheating and bullying. He spent his childhood excelling in his harper classes, pushing his classmates around, and learning to manipulate other adults into giving him what he wanted.
When he was Searched at 14, his peers were torn between joy at seeing him go and jealousy that it was him and not someone more deserving who got the chance. Leonix, of course, accepted it as a matter of course. He always knew he was destined for something great.
And greatness, it seems, found him (or so he believes), as at the HailFuries hatching he Impressed brown Slarkenth and became L'nix. While not the bronze he was hoping for, a brown he can work with - if only Slarkenth weren't so annoyingly honest.
Things were going well for the brownpair. L’’nix had recently hatched a plan on how to rise into his own power using green dragons when the tragedy struck. L’nix managed through some hardcore smooth talking to avoid a knife in his own back and now keeps a low profile while waiting to make his next move.
~~Dragon~~
Dragon Name: Slarkenth
Color: Brown
Age: 1
Wing/Weyrling Group: HailFuries
Appearance:
Slarkenth is a big brown any way you look at him. Tall, broad, and strong, he's clearly built with power in mind, though he's not so overly bulky that he sacrifices *all* of his speed and maneuverability in exchange. He'll never match his zippier brothers and sisters in that regard, but he's no slouch, either. All of his parts are where they should be, all of them in good proportion to his sturdy frame, without so much as a single tooth out of alignment or a headknob tilted one way or the other. All in all, he's a fine specimen of dragonkind, everything one of Hollanth's fine Fortian children should be... in fact, he's so perfectly representative of the ideal that some might find his looks rather boring. Handsome from an artist's or medical standpoint, certainly, but there's no real distinguishing marks, nothing to give him *character*, nothing truly *memorable* about his appearance. Even his hide is a solid and evenly shaded light brown. He only has one small quirk to call his own: one tiny tendril of dark chocolate brown that starts on top of his head and curls down just above his right eye.
Personality:
Confident, helpful, and honest to a fault, Slarkenth will be a hard brown to dismiss, even when it's probably in his best interests to *not* be noticed. He's friendly and polite so long as you don't give him reason to behave otherwise, and will always strive to do his best simply because that's the right thing to do. He'll always have a weakness for those who struggle or are in need, and he'll do whatever it takes to help his fellows succeed. Everyone has the potential to be good, if they just work hard and follow the rules!
Slarkenth has a very strong sense of justice, tempered by a roots-deep belief in the Tradition that surrounds him. He understands that there is a natural order to things, and supports that order. It's what Weyr society is based on, what makes it *work*, and those who step too far out of line are practically criminals -- and he's duty-bound to stop crimes against the Weyr! Yet at the same time, he'll occasionally be perceived as one of those who steps out of line himself. He's a self-assured, confident brown, and that alone might be enough to make some of the bronzes see him as a threat, but he also has a natural flair for leadership and tends to just step in to take charge without thinking anything of it. He doesn't mean to, it's just in his nature! Though he supports the system, he's horrified by acts of cruelty merely for their own sake. Everyone contributes, everyone is important in their own way, and while he'll never take orders from a green or blue, he'd never be unfairly harsh or cruel to one. It's just unnecessary, unless they force your hand. In turn, he expects the same courtesy from his leaders. And while he'll always be polite and respectful in his dealings with others, he'll make his disapproval known if a leader does not live up to his standards, just as he'll do the same if someone else isn't behaving properly.
And that includes his rider. Slarkenth will have the highest expectations of all for his chosen one, and he is far too strong-willed to be bullied into backing down or shutting up about it. His rider WILL be a paragon of virtue... even if the struggle over his basic nature drags them both /between/ someday.
