Assistant Weyrling Master Kl'rav
and Brown Sengroth
Played By: MyaL
Character Name: Kl'rav
Pronunciation: klrav
Character Type: Dragonrider
Rank: Assistant Weyrling Master
Political Alignment: Leans toward the Resistance or Bleeding Hearts
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Sexual Preference: Bisexual
Appearance:
That Kl'rav stands 5 feet-8 infused his withdrawn stance with confidence, however, the scrawny stature that accompanied it is less prominent, demonstrating a vague frailness he would've otherwise considered petite. It wasn't until after Impressing that athletic muscles etched themselves across his lithe, but trim stature, although not enough it'd lessen his overall flexibility. Several features, shoulders as well as a nose with rounded-off tip pointed neither up, nor down, are the most noticeable among them, protrude in distinct, bony angles somewhat softened by mere remnants of babyfat. The high-set cheekbones added further shape onto his face, whereas other features appear cherubic starting from his small chin that continues back becoming a narrow, meagerly square jaw. Kl'rav has faint dimples underneath the slight puffiness of his cheeks too.
Despite the small scar marring his lower lip, his mouth remains full, semi-lush and kissably soft. They echo the impishness shining from his lapis eyes, it reflects his fiery-spirit and other emotions even stronger making them appear more colorful. Even the raven black, an otherwise absence of color, is tinged red creating around his deep tan skin a halo that shimmers with it's strands trimmed so they're collarbone-length, pulled into a short runnertail though. The wispy front-fringe reaches toward one eye with more brushed onto either side, he keeps a comb close for brushing it free of tangles since breezes turn it into a roguish mess which he'll fix within short order. It does reach his eyebrows, eyebrows that're wide but unimpressive compared against the length of his face.
Personality:
Hesitant confidence covers a nervousness over whether someone might consider him weak and hasn't the self-assurance that'd restrain his defensive nature. He'd prefer meeting expectations rather than disappoint whomever he must be around, however, he possesses a fiery temper that'll snap, causing him a sudden fright, if bossy non-rankers exceeded those limits. It doesn't make him become too irrational anymore, it just causes him trouble in forgiving and trusting. To avoid these losses he'll keep an emotional distance that clashes with the fact he can't avoid caring about what others think.
Just because he'll desire approval won't mean he believes whatever praise they've given him, quite the opposite for criticism. Kl'rav deems what's proper through common sense and observation, something he found necessary once he'd came to Southern, but his forward mannerisms can cause him trouble in following through. They're clumsy in phrasing, can include occasional sarcasm if the situation fits but that rushing through hasn't deterred him from starting a conversation. The distinction between right and wrong, the competitiveness behind his impulsive decisions that prevents him from being easy-going; it's no wonder he'll forget his limits.
Birthplace: Fort Weyr
Parents: Y'glar and Kynlina
History:
Klyrav resulted from a mating flight, two blues may've not been successful but their riders certainly were. Nine and a half monthes later, on Turn's End, Klyrav was born at Fort Weyr as the youngest child of Y'glar and Kynlina. His parents came from a long line of blue and greenriders, and about half those were homosexual riders at Fort, that did nothing that helped how his family was viewed by their fellow Fortians. Despite how patterns can change he had three half-brothers and one sister dealing with the discrimination and even Klyrav receive a fair amount of the same treatment.
At first Klyrav didn't understand the way they treated him but around Fort that wouldn't last, there'd be time to witness the atrocities. It hit close to home when his only cousin was babysitting him. His cousin M'glin's green rose and caught by a bronze, Klyrav wasn't far off when the result after the flight occurred. Therefore he witnessed everything that left M'glin sporting a black eye...among other injuries that shattered his view of the world leaving him in shock over what he'd seen for a good few monthes. During that period Klyrav saw other signs of the abuse going on that he'd been oblivious too before.
In fourth month the shock wore off into fear. Fear he'd follow in the footsteps taken by so many others in his family, nor did he want to risk ending up a blue or greenrider. Klyrav's ravings about it weren't taken seriously though because he was no older than seven, they assumed he'd change his mind once he calmed. But his reactions increased the teasing he had to endure. In this period his eldest two half-brother, Ganmin and Jorkar, joined Candidacy and for the hatching Klyrav's sister, Kiraly, impersonated one of the male Candidates. She had fun being on the Sand up until she Impressed blue Silphafith. Following these stunning turn of events, trouble was leveled toward Klyrav's parents for not having controlled the twelve turn old girl. The stress of it began taking a toll on Y'glar's health, money and food grew scarce for their family then too.
The entire thing was taking it's toll on Klyrav emotionally, being really scary for him but in between those occurrences Klyrav still had some good, normal experiences. A drawing here and there that his parents were proud of, things like that. The next hatching went fairly normal for the family as Ganmin Impressed blue Kanuth and Jorkar Impressed green Halmiath, those colors left Klyrav and Kilyan vulnerable to more teasing from other Weyrbrats. Kilyan, however, was nearing the age when he could apprentice or Stand for Impression. As luck would have it Kilyan apprenticed for a short period before becoming a Candidate, then Impressing blue Vileth when Klyrav was no more than twelve.
After that hatching Klyrav was on the verge of apprenticing, still clinging onto the fear about standing in his families footsteps. One more mean 15 turn old soon-to-be-Candidate that was familiar with Klyrav's family took it upon himself to prove Klyrav wrong. The boy, Lizyle kissed Klyrav in an attempt to tempt Klyrav before biting him on the lip.
Hurt and afraid Klyrav struck out blindly before running off to hide in his bed. But the occurrence did convince Klyrav to try Candidacy at some point if he got the chance in hopes to prove that he wouldn't end up like the rest of his family, or at least to escape the nasty haughty Weyrbrats. Klyrav wouldn't even quite admit to himself yet that he wouldn't mind if he Impressed a blue....he's in total denial about greens.
His nerves wouldn't let him approach any riders immediately, instead he Apprenticed to a Master Vintner named Dorana. During the next turn J'kar's riding straps broke and sent him plummeting to his death, Halmiath went *between*. The equipment was found to be faulty but there was no real investigation. J'kar's young puppy was left in Klyrav's care. Then, as Klyrav was starting to get brave, the structure of Fort Weyr was coming into question as so many people transferred to Southern. Y'glar had planned to leave but he was seriously ill that Kynlina was becoming serious about downing the wine. Y'glar took the opportunity to convince Kiraly and Klyrav to leave for Southern. G'min and K'lyan were determined to stay.
At Southern Weyr, Klyrav became a Candidate but stayed somewhat to himself, following his old Fort believes and he might've still been doing so if he hadn't met Pera. She convinced him of certain differences at Southern making Klyrav come to idolize the greenrider, he even accepted that maybe Impressing a green wasn't such a horrible things. However when the Hatching started Klyrav lost his nerve not really wanting to Impress, he just wanted out, more so when approached by the green a certain brown had trampled over. That brown knocked the green aside before anything could happen and let it be known loudly that Klyrav was His.
Since than Kl'rav has been trying to manage amongst his classmates, which wasn't so easy given Sengroth's anti-social nature and the brown's love of dirty. It has been an interesting experience. Kl'rav sacrificed what freetime he had before to do even more work, though this work was sprouting some food during the famine. Once graduated into a wing things fell apart, everything took up time and he couldn't find the opportunity for a social life, which was't Sengroth's fault. To combat it though he bought himself a bronze Lilacape flit egg. The bronze which hatched took a fair amount of time but slowly ruined what kept Kl'rav's freetime busy thus driving the brownrider back into a social lifestyle.
He followed his dream of teaching Weyrlings, got himself two more firelizards -- both blue, the first he bought from Lilacape and the second was from a clutch Rivalry himself had sired. He became the WLM, found love in female greenrider and exchanged some blows with a bronzerider during his goldrider friend's flight. Not too long after that a herdbeast plague struck Southern. The entire disaster after disaster took it's toll until he had to step down becoming an AWLM again to regain some sense of balance. When the Weyr fell he lead several Weyrlings to safety at Fort Weyr, he understood what was expected from them, but lost his two blue firelizard that had swept through the Barracks one last time in case some Weyrling had lagged behind. There's been no news about his lover or daughters either. When it came to teaching Fort Weyrlings he planned on keeping politics out of his lessons. He's out to teach them how not to die and how to not be stupid.
~~Pet~~
Pet name: Rivalry
Pet Species/Color: Firelizard/Bronze
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Rivalry hatched a pale buttermilk-bronze, beginning life without what is normally a healthy coloration, but whether something was wrong isn't an issue because his hide has darkened since then. It is still a buttermilk-bronze coloration just nowhere near the dangerous pallor he'd had before. His size, however, hasn't improved greatly. While not being the smallest bronze firelizard, he's not a full medium-size either in that sleek form with it's smooth muscled mounds. He needed that strength to control a wingspan that's rather big for a bronze like himself.
Personality:
Rivalry isn't much different from his name. The constant need for attention, whether from his human or those that he's adjusted to being around, gives way to scorn toward anything that keeps him from receiving said attention. Once his vengeance is satisfied he'll return to being a simple, demanding bronze firelizard that won't even send mental images as explanation because such's below him. As far as he's concerned his actions in most cases can speak for themselves, though some situations might drive him into passing on a message...if it's something urgent enough. He's a Lilacape.
~~Dragon~~
Dragon Name: Sengroth
Color: Brown
Age: 11 Turns
Wing/Weyrling Group:
Appearance:
Sengroth is a wall of muddy water, one that moves with a single-minded drive engulfing whatever obstacle's tried blocking his giant brown form as he reaches for what's most important to him at the moment. He simply, is put, the mightiest brown of his clutch, perhaps the mightiest if one considers the untoned mass he already possessed at hatching. By now that great mass of muscle has taken on it's true definition beneath his dark, moist-seeming hide, a rich brown-black dragon skin which would change into something that'd look more like sludge at the bottom of a fetid swamp when unhealthy. Though unpleasant alone, it's effect is enhanced since the even darker dappling on his wingsails becomes like leeches and the light, root-like veins of color on his 'fingers' and 'toes' may well appear to be a nasty mold. Not that Kl'rav lets such an effect happen.
Personality:
That doesn't mean keeping him clean will be easy, even young he's quite a lot of dragon which isn't helped by the fact that Sengroth doesn't like bathing. He in fact hates it and only lets himself be bathed because it's easier on Kl'rav. He's prone to make the walking and contorting necessary for cleaning him seem like way too much effort, especially when he can just lay all comfortable in the sun. After all, the smell doesn't bother him. Either way Sengroth still must be herded into the water, but beware because it'll sure makes him grumpy, and grumpy Sengroth with slitted eyes, tail thumping, and subsonic grumbling growl shaking the ground around him is a foreboding sight. But as scary as he seems, deep down he's just a big softy...though it's a very, very deep down...and he won't do more than look intimidating. He certainly won't be social, now or ever, but with persistence some others might befriend him. Even feeding the brown is a chore of itself that sometimes has Kl'rav sympathizing with his bronzeriding classmates.
As annoying as Sengroth's demeanor might be, he does have his virtues. They're mixed, but make up for most of it. He has a certain loyalty where he'll help others if he must, though mostly, above all else, he is fiercely territorial. Kl'rav is HIS rider! He won't let anyone else harm, upset, interrupt, or look at him for extended periods of time without his permission. But in his determined way, if Kl'rav needs something and can get him on his feet, Sengroth will become a force that only a queen can hope to dominate. This protective nature is coupled with a voice that is soft and comforting to Kl'rav, and Kl'rav alone, but it's with a warmth meant to shield Kl'rav from the world whenever needed. Of course, there are many who would appreciate it less when Sengroth feels the urge to defend HIS couch, HIS green, and HIS ledge. If ever he meets someone he cannot intimidate away, people get to see the adorable side of him...one of befuddled blinking and perhaps even scratching his head in a gesture he picked up from observing humans while doing his lump impression.
But one thing for sure is that Sengroth will clash with nearly everyone, with the exception of maybe HIS green.
Weyr of Origin Southern
Abilities and weaknesses: Sengroth's one strong brown, a true powerhouse of strength when it comes right down to things. He might not be a bronze but he does a very good impersonation of one with the strength he can display. It's not surprising how long he can actually last in the air even though he powers roughly through speed and turns, making graceful be one thing he is certainly not. But as long as the job gets done being smooth doesn't matter to him.
