Kadee
Played By: Rosie
Character Name: Kadee
Pronunciation:
Character Type: Candidate
Rank: Candidate
Political Alignment: *Very* firmly set in the Establishment and Traditional views, but not majorly into politics other than that.
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Appearance:
Kadee is a short and sweet looking girl, and has the general appearance of the cute girl next door. She’s only 5’3, and her build is quite thin, although her bust and hips do have curves enough for her to be considered hourglass, especially with the way her waist dips in. Even though she has an hourglass figure her thighs are slender and well-formed and not thick or bulky. She weighs in at only just above 100lbs, but because of her time working in the crèche she has muscles enough to be picking up and carrying babies around.
She had previously cut her hair to be able to Stand for the gold egg, preparing for the day it would need to be shorter for her to ride gold. When she didn’t impress and it grew out a little she began to keep it at shoulder length, liking how easy it was to take care of at that length vs. when it fell down her back. She does keep some hair shorter (about ear length) to frame her slightly oval shaped face. Her hair is a solid dark brown color and her eyes are a pale blue color, sometimes looking pale green in different lights. Her skin is fair, but she has no freckles to mar her pale skin. When it’s summer-time she takes great care not to be outside in the bright sunlight for too long, as she knows she would burn badly.
Her lips match her eyes in their paleness, being a light pink color, but still holding enough color to make them stand out against her pale skin. She does tend to wear just a tad darker coloring on her lips, just to make them look even pinker and stand out even more against her skin, but she never wears red coloring on her lips (cause that has never looked right). Against her skin her dark brown eyelashes are visible and frame her eyes, as do her well formed and softly arching eyebrows.
Because Kadee considers herself a lady (although not one of rank yet) and not just another female candidate to fill the spots for a green or blue dragonet to impress to (oh, that would be horrible!), you will *never* see her in pants- only skirts. However, knowing the impractically of skirts when you are a candidate she wears under her skirts thin pale leggings (as close as undyed material could come to matching her skin tone), all of which come to at least her knees. Her skirts will normally fall at least a little past her knees, but in the colder months they will be an inch from brushing the ground, not wanting to muddy the edge of her skirt by having them touch the ground. The skirts she wears have a defined waistline, cinched in to show off the dip of her waist and the curve of her hips, and are slightly flared, but not enough to tangle up her legs. Her tunics have low to medium necklines, either in a ‘v’ or scooped, and both her tunics and skirts are made with soft, clingy and flowing fabrics. She tends to wear colors that won’t suck the little color she has out of her skin, these wearable colors being light blue, beige, brown, off-white, and even bold blue, moss green, and deep reds.
Personality:
She lives in a world that is concrete and kind, and as such is truly warm and kind-hearted, and wants to believe the best of people. She values harmony and cooperation, and is likely to be very sensitive to people's feelings with whom she tends to spends lots of time with. She is the kind of person who takes on other people's worries. She is optimistic, efficient and a person of action - the type of person who gets things done. Her friends tend to rely on her to get them moving and keep things running, and because of this she is a bit popular. She acts as the motherly figure of her siblings and those who she befriends, giving advice and help to those who need it. She is nurturing, practical, understanding, and generally uninterested in the finer points of politics in the Weyr (beyond knowing her duty and that the system works for a reason) or in studying much beyond what is required of her (and then she even has trouble with studying), but she’s not lacking in wit or humor in dealing with unexpected situations. She learns best by doing rather than by reading about something in a book or applying theory, meaning she learns best by being shown a practical application. Yet once something is learned and its practical application is understood, she will faithfully and tirelessly carry through the task to completion, being extremely dependable. In her protectiveness sometimes she comes across as adopting a disapproving or overly cautious demeanor, especially toward her siblings.
She is mainly good-natured and on good terms with people she meets, but if you cross her or any of her siblings be warned, she is a fierce defender. Yet she keeps a level head even as she defends those she cares about, taking care not to get herself or others into too much trouble. She does have a knack of sensing the needs of those she is around most often and tends to try and fill those needs. Even though she is protective, she is a fun and talkative person but sometimes she can be overbearing. This happens when she becomes harshly and haughtily arrogant, like when she knows what’s best for people and become a bit dominant about her opinions. She is very aware of her own feelings, but tends to not express them- instead keeping them inside. She also needs positive feedback from others, and in the absence of positive feedback or in the face of negative criticism she will get discouraged and may even get a little depressed. When down on herself or under stress she begins to imagine all the things that could go wrong in her life, have strong feelings of inadequacy and become convinced that “everything is all wrong” or “I can’t do anything right”.
The problem is that she tends to forget about herself in all of this, becoming over-burdened because of her trouble telling people ‘no’. She needs to remember that she is an important and worthwhile person, and sometimes it is okay to say "no" to people's constant requests and demands. Kadee also dislikes conflict and when there is a problem will tend to put other people’s needs before her own. She needs to give herself some time-off and learn to identify, value, and express her own needs in order to avoid being over-worked and taken for granted. Another problem of Kadee’s is that while she learned her lessons about tradition and laws well and respects them, believing that the existing system is there because it works, she very much is a color-elitist. This means that she firmly believes that brown, bronze, and goldriders just *are* better, that male green and blue riders are perverts (attempting to keep her distance from them so that their pervert ways don’t taint her chance at a gold), and that female green and blueriders are freaks that she looks down on. Because of Kadee’s upmost believe in that the system works, she would *never* Stand for anything other than Gold, and very much looks down on the girls who actively seek green or blue dragon, as well as those who have already been picked by the smallest two colors.
Favorite Quotes: “If you keep on making faces like that, they’ll stick that way and *then* think how sorry you’ll be.” “Well! Fancy that! Fancy my making a mistake like that.” “Are you *sure* you’re all right, dear?”
Talents: She’s a very fast runner, so much so that if she ever left the Weyr she could become a very good Runner between the Hold and Hall. She also has a well-developed sense of space, function, and aesthetic appeal, meaning that she is a good decorator (when provided with enough materials and choices), and combined with her sensitivity to other’s feelings she is a good gift-giver, finding the right gift to be truly appreciated by the recipient.
Birthplace: Fort Weyr
Parents: Father: A'mil (+22 Turns), Brownrider; Mother: Daelyn (+21 Turns), Crecheworker
Half-brothers: Auwol, Gruffle, E'yor, Rashkbit, T'gaer, Pohnwin, others TBD
Full Brother: Roimyn
Son: Radameen (R'meen's son)
History:
She had a pretty normal childhood growing up in the Weyr’s crèche system. She was the oldest of her siblings and as such she even from a young age she felt it was her responsibility to look after her younger siblings, make sure they didn’t eat bugs or choke on toys, keep them out of trouble, listen when they had problems, and make sure they never got overlooked by anyone and always felt like they had someone they could come to. Since she was the daughter of a brownrider she felt it was ok for her to look over other younger, smaller children who weren’t her siblings, and even if someone made a stink and didn’t appreciate her efforts she’d still look after them, but she would be more subtle about it.
Her mother was a crèche-worker so it was only natural that she would want to help her mother look after the other kids, yet once old enough to choose her own place in the Weyr she became a candidate while still helping her mother in the crèche during her spare time. Kadee loves children, she really does, so it was natural that when she became pregnant when she was 17 that she would choose to have the baby and then give him over to the crèche system, making sure to visit her son at every opportunity that a candidate would have.
She’s been a candidate since the oldest of her younger sibling decided to join the ranks of boys in the candidate barracks and since she was over 15 when her first sibling became a candidate she joined him and became a candidate herself, believing she needed to be there to watch over him. She has never portrayed herself as anything but the most proper of young ladies, and a fitting gold candidate, avoiding the kind of company that might tarnish her reputation and make any potential gold look negatively on her. She was a bit heart-broken when the newest gold didn’t even look in her direction, but has decided that that little gold ‘clearly’ wasn’t meant for her, not if the rumors are true and that young gold dragon likes to spend her time with the little greens vs. the beautiful bronze boys. So she waits and waits for the next golden egg to be laid, knowing she might not have another chance to be the goldrider she knows she could be and that would make her father proud of her.
Throughout her Turns as a candidate she has done everything proper and expected of her: going (and struggling at some times) to her lessons, doing her chores, spending additional free time in the crèche, and tutoring younger candidates if they needed it. A little bit after the dragon plague, Kadee even went so far as to do what R’meen, the father of her son, had requested she do and go and *be* with a bluerider acquaintance of his, J’kestin, for the sake of that bluerider having the chance of being with a ‘proper’ woman instead of boys. Kadee was shocked and disgusted at R’meen’s request, but she didn’t show those two emotions. After a sevenday that R’meen had given her to find a ‘proper’ woman to go to the bluerider’s weyr or else Kadee herself would go, she was horrified to have to fulfill R’meen’s request herself as she hadn’t found another woman. She’d swallowed back her disgust and stayed that night, even though her stomach was painfully tight and her skin nearly crawled at his touch, ‘doing her duty’ with the bluerider several times that night. The next day she’d scrubbed her skin nearly raw trying to get the feeling of the pervert bluerider’s touch off of her, but she’d followed R’meen’s orders at least.
The *one* time she did anything the least bit improper, although she believes she was acting as proper as she should have been, is when golden Tameketh called the girls out of the Stands to join her on the Sands when her first clutch began hatching. Apparently this gold would have preferred her babies impress to girls over boys, but while Kadee followed the gold’s order and went out on the sands (believing it better to respect the order of a gold who could later clutch the gold egg she might impress to), Kadee stayed at the *very* back of the candidates and crossed her fingers hoping that none of the green or (gasp) blue hatchings would look her way.
It seemed for the next turn that Kadee did *not* live that incident down. While it had been the gold that had ordered girls out of the Stands, no way was it going to be the gold held accountable, it was her and the other girls who had just followed orders. She was looked at with sideways glances, scolded, and even ‘taught’ a lesson on how she needed to be proper through beatings and worse.
8.19.08.26- After the cure for the dragon plague is found and dragons recover, Kadee followed R’meen’s request (really order) to sleep with a bluerider acquaintance, J’kestin. Kadee does this, but is completely disgusted with the whole thing.
8.20.05.14- Radameen (R'meen's son) turned 2 turns old.
8.20.08.17- Kadee turns 20 turns old.
8.21.09.10- Kadee follows Tameketh’s order and, along with other girls, goes onto the sands for a Hatching (that did not have a gold egg).
8.21.09.10 and for the next turn (and longer)- Kadee pays for her decision to follow the gold’s order in no longer being considered ‘proper’ no matter how she tries to prove herself. She’s the object of scolding, beatings, and other ‘lessons’ on how she should *not* have gone down on the Sands.
8.22.08.17- Kadee turns 22 turns old.
