Jotsie and Green Slendeth
Played By: Charon
Character Name: Jotsie
Pronunciation: Jot-tse
Character Type: Dragonrider
Rank: Wingrider
Political Alignment: Holds onto the views from Southern and Ista weyr
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Appearance:
Jotsie is a looker, she inherited the hourglass figure and hazel eyes from her mother and the thick, wavy strawberry blonde hair from her father. However, if you can see past the first impression of beauty you notice a series of small flaws. Her nose has a small crook from her father breaking it when she was a small child. Her eyes are slightly off center. She has a slight limp from the same incident that broke her nose. She, however, loves her imperfections. Each fracture and bruise represents either a learning experience or a victory, and she's proud of it. She enjoys dressing up, before her father took issue her brothers would dote on her and this influenced her preferred style. She is of medium height, and she wears thickly soled boots to boost her up another inch.
Personality:
This green rider is a proud person. Thanks to her family and her exposure to the traditionalists at Ista she is a little more wary about speaking up then she used to be, but that doesn't prevent her from holding a grudge. The longer she's around the more she's learning about how valuable subtlety can be compared to outright aggression. Her experiences have left her without much sympathy for those who can't handle life. If she helps them it’s because she considers the people they're facing to be in the wrong not because she necessarily cares for their suffering. Friendly is not the word for Jotsie, but shrewd might be. If you can get around her edges she is good company, and she prefers hanging out with men to women. Along with her pride she has a fierce sense of responsibility, to herself and to those her actions might effect. She does have a problem with alcohol, on many of her nights off (if riders can be considered to truly have such things) she can be found in her weyr marinating herself in her preferred liquor of the night. She doesn't consider herself an alcoholic, but with the fall of Southern that particular habit might get worse.
Birthplace: Ista Hold
Parents: All of her family are beast crafters, her parents two apprentices who met each other during their classes. Her brothers have gone on to continue the family trade, while she was searched and impressed.
History:
Jotsie had a rough childhood, the youngest child of a family of six whose elder siblings were all boys. She learned to play rough and tumble, and also how to use her looks to gain advantage with her brother's friends. This didn't settle to well with their father, who had a very conservative view on women and had been pleased the couple’s previous three children had all been boys. Jotsie often felt the brunt of her father's anger, whether it was emotional or physical abuse. Her brothers did their best to shield her, but they had their own lives so she couldn't hide behind them all the time. After the beating that broke her nose and fractured her hip her mother made an effort to defend Jotsie. This didn't last long. Jotsie tried yelling back, which only led to making things worse, so she learned to stay silent and passive aggressively deal with the situations.
At the age of 13 she took the opportunity to leave with her brother to take herdbeast to Ista Weyr, but when he left she stayed behind. She loved being at the weyr, and didn't even mind when the first two hatchings she attended left her lonely on the sands. Nothing mattered as long as she could stay there. At age 15 she impressed to green Slendeth, and once again life only seemed like it could get better. Weyrling training went smoother then some, at one point she broke her arm falling off Slendeth's back during training, but it healed without issue and the pair took it as a valuable lesson. The injury did delay their graduation, but that was all. Life went on, and while the political maneuvering didn't involve her directly she paid attention to the rumors the drifted about. She heard of a junior weyrwoman who wanted the weyr to be traditional, and was gathering groupies who felt the same way around her. Jotsie listened and learned to avoid this clique, but didn't think they were a serious danger to the weyr's way of life. A year after her graduation she came to conflict with a bronze favorite of the same junior WW, and ended up transferred to Southern. She found it disturbing that the gold rider had so much sway, but Southern wasn't too different from Ista, and she and Slendeth prospered.
Then came that horrible, horrible night, when the earth buckled beneath Southern. Slendeth managed to take to the air with Jotsie before her weyr crumbled. They ended up as refugees at Fort along with many of their kin, trying to cope and salvage what sanity they have left.
~~Dragon~~
Dragon Name: Slendeth
Color: Green
Age: 5
Appearance:
While all dragons are predators and riders recognize that, Slendeth looks the part. She is as small in mass as most greens but she is long in both neck and tail, and her jaws have a small overbite that lets you see the tips of her front teeth at all times. Even her eyeridges seem positioned to give her a constant expression of anger! Her coloring contributes as well, fading from the green seen in the north's pine needled trees on her top half to a more muddied green on her stomach. This lends to excellent camouflage, something she often used as a dragonet to scare her fellow weyrlings.
Personality:
This lengthy green is a sneaky, quiet little dragon. For a 24 foot long creature she can be surprisingly stealthy, and when that is combined with her coloring it means she spends a great deal of her time watching from the sidelines without anyone knowing. She's also not well mannered, Jotsie is the one person she is constantly considerate towards and everyone else does not matter. When she gets proddy she becomes a little friendlier, but even then its a rather viscous friendliness. Whichever poor blue or brown she fancies might find her constantly nearby, interjecting her commentary into their daily lives. Yet, despite all her efforts and spent energy, after they catch her she generally loses interest.
Weyr of Origin: Ista
Abilities and weaknesses: Just like her appearance leads people to expect Slendeth's strengths lie in hunting, she enjoys the thrill of chasing and bring down her prey, sometimes she'll practice stalking wherries for the fun of it. In Threadfall, though, she isn't terribly useful. She is too aggressive, treating thread as if it is an animal instead of, well, thread. Jotsie has to constantly rein Slendeth in, and has lost more than one harness to her green getting too caught up in the moment.
