Master Healer Isthor
Played By: MyaL
Character Name: Isthor
Pronunciation:
Character Type: Healer
Rank: Master
Political Alignment: PWP
Age: 43
Gender: Male
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Appearance:
It seems you can see his 'father' Thordred's features in his face. The cleft chin, strong jawline, and little crease formed between his eyebrows look like they could've been copied right off his father's face, but everything else must have come from his mother. His pale tan skin does raise some questions though. He's broad across his shoulders and chest, not to mention tall, almost 6 foot-2 were he another fraction taller, whenever he'd not bent over tending an injury. Even his stomach reflects that broadness; his girth causing him to seem rather blocky since his waist runs almost straight down to his hips.
Almost shoulder length blond hair, kept all in one length, is pulled back into a short runnertail that leaves his dark hazel eyes in the clear, a very useful thing given his craft. Those eyes, however, have the outer corners slightly more elevated than Thordred's. His stance is proud and confident and he moves in even strides that're never rushed unless there's an emergency needing his attention or Threadfall preparations in the works. His hands, large with somewhat long, slender fingers, tend to be dry and chapped from constant washing. From jotting down notes about patients a small callus developed on the side of his middle finger though it'd disappear given several sevenday without writing.
Personality:
Isthor can't tolerate nonsense, nor laziness, from whatever apprentice he'll come across in the Infirmary. Should he discover one shooting the breeze he'll bark some annoyed comment before ordering them onto some available, mundane project. Because they've not earned their chance for more important tasks. Those who've done their work, those who'll never laze around whenever off-duty are the people he'll entrust with more important tasks. It is a severe switch from the gentle nature his parents may remember.
But, after Eivna died, he became this stern and critical individual unless someone caught him around Ewena. His foremost goal once within the infirmary, however, is treating whoever entered that domain. It won't matter whether they're Resistance or Traditionalist, his job doesn't include judging them unless they injured themselves doing something immensely stupid. Something like wandering around the Rim in high heels. Keeping them alive is always his first priority and that often requires complete mental clarity. Therefore he prefers to not become emotionally involved.
Despite all the stoicism, Isthor is surprisingly sensitive toward someone's pain and regrets seeing dead spinners, or tunnelsnakes even if he killed them himself. Sometimes his voice, a tenor, sounds as though he could've been a harper instead, being smooth from practice on certain songs. Songs that're lullabies he's sung to Ewena since she could stay in his quarters. He remains dedicated to being a healer though...after all he can only sing a few lullabies.
Birthplace: Fort Weyr
Parents: Master Healer Thordred, Unnamed Bluerider, Welisa
Birthday: -21t.04m.09d
History:
Thordred and Welisa were married for several Turns before Isthor was conceived. If it took so long for a reason then Isthor doesn't know it, however, they welcomed him as the treasured firstborn who over time received an increasing share of responsibility. So if Welisa may've found a bluerider with similar features to Thordred and bedded him, to find out whether she or Thordred was sterile...well that secret was never told...not even to Thordred. Instead Ishor learned, spent time around other children equally interested in their studies, and seemed a serious, caring youth that veered from obvious trouble where others sought it out, sought out the adventure of it. There was one time, just one, where a friend tempted him into wandering further into the lower caverns, though after wandering around somewhat lost they encountered a drudge, who lead them out.
Had that result not discouraged him from doing it again, then so did his parent's overprotective reaction. After that Isthor wanted to appease his father and paid extra attention when his parents discussed Infirmary topics, from there his interest in Healing blossomed rapidly. So once Isthor reached 12 he was well-learned enough that he understood that apprenticing in the Weyr meant being compared against his highly respected father by other healers, maybe even isolating him from other Apprentices. Therefore he took his parent's recommendation he apprentice at Fort Hold's Healercraft Hall; sometime after he'd gone his brother was conceived, after Welisa's second secret fling with the bluerider, and born. When he walked the tables he'd already started a relationship with Eivna, a Healer's assistant in the Hall, and had no interest in leaving. As journeyman the first months were frustrating since not many wanted treatment from an inexperienced Journeyman until he was working extra shifts in preparation for marrying Eivna. The exhaustion caused him to mix some notes on patient records that didn't belong together but the next healer on-duty caught it, ending with him being given a short vacation in which he was prescribed much rest.
Eivna's presence, her cheerful, encouraging nature, was the silver lining. She made sure he put food in his mouth, that klah awaited him each morning and several months later they managed to marry, then conceive their daughter after another 4 months. Plus another Journeyman, that was sweet on Isthor, gifted them a firelizard egg as a wedding present. What joy came from Ewena's birth was dampened as Eivna died from it, leaving Isthor alone to raise her. With no reason he should stay he waited until Ewena was another few months older before asking for reassignment to Fort Weyr. His reason was so that Ewena would have other family around besides him.
His 'father' couldn't spend much time around Ewena, whereas his mother and brother were significant features within Ewena's development. About 16 Turns after returning home Isthor earned the rank of Master. Not too long afterward his mother died, any information about certain blueriders and Thordred possibly being sterile went with her. It wouldn't have been information Isthor cared about because he'd never accept the idea that Thordred hadn't earned the 'father' title. His daughter took interest in some Dragonhealer apprentice within several months after Welisa's death. 2 Turns later, after he'd became 43, the Lesser rebellion happened wherein his 'father' was injured enough that he lost use of one arm, which forced him to retire. Isthor was too busy tending patients during and after the rebellion to deal much with Thordred's retirement.

~~Pets~~
Pet name: Lucia
Species/color: Firelizard/Green
Gender: Female
Appearance:
It won't take more than one glance to recognize the darker olive coloration, nor the viridian heart-shape that's just above her right wing. That heart expands whenever she actually is moving said wings and seems like it's a pulsing, living part of herself. When you consider her size and shape it becomes apparent that her just over 4 inch length must mean her parentage was from the wild. Gaunt and slender painted her as being the complete image of some fragile green. Even though there are some scarce, small muscles visible.
Personality:
Green firelizard, especially those from wild parentage, don't have the greatest reputation for being smart. Lucia shatters those expectations, or might be proving herself as some great mimic. Either way she learned how tool usage and how one uses something like a utensil, so now she'll always try eating with utensils. That she can wrap bandages around a patient's arm might raise some questions too...she'll even seem disappointed that there are bigger tools she can't handle.
It is around those bigger tools that her greenness will come out. No matter how many times she tried before, no matter how many strained wings she gave herself, she never recognizes when something is beyond her limits. Therefore, after she recovers from hurting herself, she must promptly forget the lesson she learned. If she gets too frustrated with her failure to move something before hurting herself...she'll sharding well find some other tool that'll move what she wants. There have been numerous times some entered into a room, stepped onto some lever Lucia setup and overturned the box it'd braced under.
