Gianiva
Played By: Cymiri
Character Name: Gianiva
Pronunciation: Gee-anne-eeva
Character Type: Staff
Rank: Laundry Worker
Political Alignment: Groupies
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Appearance:
Gianiva is not as handsome as some of the Weyr girls; but she has a fresh, hills 'n wildflower aspect to her looks that can be refreshing and even alluring when set against a more carefully constructed beauty and she takes the utmost care with what she has; especially with working the heavy, steamy laundries- a post she hopes to quit before real damage is done.
She has curves enough to fill a dress well and a little extra in the right department for most of her admirers, though a lifetime of touting heavy loads keeps her trim too. Her eyes let her down a little- or make her, depending on your taste. They hover in a gritty area of pale, but with the right emphasis and color she can work wonders, and at least pale is not bog-standard brown.
Gianiva's dark hair is ultra-thick, and she copes by keeping the bulk of it cut to a soft, flattering jaw-length cap. She adds her own eccentric touch by allowing just a few long wisps at the sides to frame and soften the angular lines of her face and long neck.
Personality:
Gianvia has a fierce pride, but it is a quiet one, a *proper* one. One in being a *true* woman of Fort. Girls with stupid ideas need to get real or get out of the Weyr. There is a Way Things Are and that is how they should be. Little creatures who crawl around like beaten shadows enlisting sympathy for their own stupidity, or the brazen ninnies who think they have the right to undermine the men- the *dragonmen*, the men risking their lives and sanity in the skies and out of them for their sakes- annoy her like nothing else, though she simply keeps herself aloof from them when forced to deal with them rather than giving them the pleasure of engagement.
Politics and scheming rarely affect her because she ignores them. The laundry needs doing no matter who is in charge, and riders will suffer (and complain) if their weyrs are left filthy no matter who is stabbing who in the back. She does her duty and keeps herself happy- supremely so, actually. Occasionally (often) she dabbles in pretend matchmaking or the other forms of hero-worship the Weyr girls would be desperately embarrassed to admit to.
Actually, about that...Gianiva has taken the doctrine of Fort Weyr to heart. All dragonmen are her idols, some more so then others. Those who reach her special, cherished category of 'hero' would be hard pressed to do *anything* bad enough to lose their particular high stance in her admiring eyes. They couldn't ask for a better publicity team either- should reality lack in dramatic deeds of heroicness attributable to them, then she will gladly help spin them a sparklier story or two.
When called for, she enjoys the flirting and attention of an admirer, but it is not in her nature to cling possessively. She loves gossip, though not if it will interfere with her work. Basically, Gianiva is the type of girl Fort is made of. And its children are born from.
Birth Place: Fort Weyr
Parents: Ki'hi (bluerider), Fellgiana (Lower Cavern Worker)
History:
Gianiva is a proud Fort girl of a long Fort bloodline. Her kin have served the Weyrfolk for generations, even contributing to their ranks fairly regularly. She herself has more than a few relations- an uncle on brown (whom she secretly idolizes as an awesome example of Fort riderhood, partly on the basis of his actual deeds and partly on those she has convinced herself are fitting), a father, even brothers on dragonback- and the deep rooted hope that one day it will be sons too.
Gianvia is a woman totally content in her life. She has never stood for gold herself, because she recognizes that while there is a certain, very special class of woman who can do that; who were born with strength and sense and smarts and who-knows-what-else enough to be capable to put themselves out there, among men, *above* men; she is not one of them. She is happy to serve. In her more romantic moments, though, she can't help but hope she will be special enough to birth a girl for a Fortian gold too - if she were to be particularly blessed.
Her foster mother had a particular influence on her. Mother and foster mother to many, she seemed the ideal of Fort womanhood to the impressionable young Gianiva, and she longs to prove herself equally competent with the Fort legacy. Gianiva has two children, both by bronze riding fathers and much to her pride; not always kept democratically quiet among her lower Cavern cronies. Her dalliance with Gw'sayk was memorable but short, and they see little of each other outside the odd mothed flight when he has sought her out again- to her secret delight. T'yzas still turns up in her life every now and again, welcomed each time with a similar thrill.
Gianiva does her Duty and her duties, and has fun the rest of the while. She counts her life a lucky one
