Dakair
Played By: Aaron
Character Name: Dakair
Pronunciation:
Character Type: Crafter
Rank: Journeyman
Political Alignment: Traditional
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Sexual Preference: Bisexual
Appearance:
Dakair is on the underside of average when it comes to size. Growing up, he was practicality tiny, stick thin and short, like something the wind might have little trouble picking up. Upon reaching adolescence, he filled out a bit, achieving a lithe, toned look, though still thin and not terribly tall, coming in at just five feet, eight inches. He has straight, black hair, kept fairly short, golden brown eyes, and olive toned skin. He has an almost-boyish nose and a charming smile.
Personality:
Dakair is about as traditional as the next lad from Fort Hold, though perhaps not as radical or outspoken. His time at the Igen main Tanner Hall gave him a fresh perspective not gained by most in Fort's protectorate, and he developed something of a "this is my way, and it's the right way, objectively better than your way, but you're free to be wrong" attitude concerning traditional Fort values - that is, Traditional values are clearly best, but if you really want to do things your way, he is not about to waste his time arguing with you about it. Dakair is dutiful and actually quite enjoys his work as a tanner, turning hides into sturdy leathers, feeling it is very important to make a contribution to society. The better and more useful your contribution, the better you were as a person. He is cheerful and willing to have fun, but knows when to be serious about work.
Birthplace: Fort Hold
Parents: Zairem (father, deceased) Farmer; Kadaly (mother, 39) Baker
History:
Dakair was born first to his parents, a failed Candidate from Fort Weyr turned farmer and the daughter of a long line of farmers. He was soon joined by sister after sister, but never another brother.
When he was five, his father's mother brought his cousin, Xekive, from the Weyr to live with them at the Hold, and for him, the reasons were incomprehensible and unimportant. For him, what mattered was he now had the little brother he always wanted.
Dakair grew up at first learning his father's adopted trade, but it was not long at all before he began to show interest in his uncle's work. One of his mother's brothers had trained with the tanners and then had returned, assigned to work at Fort Hold. He started off merely loving the smell of leather, but he soon learned that he loved learning to work it, too.
He was somewhat distraught when Xekive was Searched to go back to the weyr. It was almost like losing his brother. When would he see him again? Could he? He hatched a plan. He would train at the main Tanner Hall with his uncle's blessing and learn to make the leathers for riding. He had no idea how difficult it would be to be selected to work at the weyr, where they accepted only the best.
But by the time he made Journeyman, the plague had narrowed the field. And beside that, he had worked hard for Turns to be the best, to deserve the assignment. And when he finally made it to Fort Weyr, his first order of business was to find the closest thing he had ever had to a brother.
