Bronwynn
Played By: Rosie
Character Name: Bronwynn
Pronunciation: BRAWN- win
Character Type: Tailor Crafter
Rank: Apprentice
Political Alignment: Resistance ideas and beliefs, although she’s not been recruited.
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Bisexual
Appearance:
She has a lithe, athletic figure with her shoulders and hips being about the same width and no definition at her waistline or hips. She is tall for her age and gender, standing at 5ft. 9 in., with the good chance she will be taller, and is about 140 lbs. She has a small bust (A cup, if that), a flat butt, and proportionally slender legs and arms, although she is no girl weakling. Basically she has a rectangle body shape, practically a ruler straight up and down.
Her hair is the same dark brown that her father R’zic’s hair was before it started to turn grey, but with subtle and natural auburn highlights for warmth. Her eyes are dark smoky steel blue-grey, just like her mother’s. Her hair she has grown out so that it falls a bit past her shoulders, and she’s even been learning to style the mostly straight hair. However, her hair is most often in disarray because of her tendency to run her fingers through it.
She has almond shaped eyes with a petite nose, and high cheekbones. Her nose is straight from having managed to keep out of fights. Her neck is slender, almost too thin, and her facial features are sharp and defined. She has thin dark eyebrows and her skin is not too pale and not too tan, as she doesn't really tan or burn no matter how long she is in the sun. She has a smooth complexion, except for dark freckles that cover her nose and cheeks before trailing up the outer side of her face to disappear under her hairline. She also has a faint scar that starts under her left ear and cuts up across her cheek (from an accidental scratch by Jade). Her cheeks are constantly a pale pink. Her thin lips are a darker rose color and slightly stand out in contrast to the rest of her face.
Her clothing used to consists of boyish earth-tone clothes that don’t draw attention to her. She mainly wears comfortable fitting pants and longish shirts, nothing too tight or to loose, with a belt around her waist. The belt helps to hide her gender in that the belt allows her undefined waist and hips to show, but not her small bust. She also keeps a small knife on her belt for protection, and Q’ryn has taught her how to use it. She doesn’t worry about the latest fashion or what would look better on her as those things never really cross her mind, and these are the types of clothing that Wynn feels most comfortable and herself in. However, as a result of her makeovers and attempts to gain the protection of a higher ranked rider, as well as becoming JW Siardan’s apprentice, Wynn has been not just learning more about the current fashions but has been required to display those fashions in her own clothing choices (much to Wynn’s dismay!)
Personality:
She has two different personalities, who she really is inside and the personality she wears as a mask to protect herself, which is the personality that almost everyone else sees.
What She Is Really Like:
She is moralistic and knows that there are rules that really do help people, yet she believes that the Weyr rank structure system is wrong in the belief that both women and lower colors are inferior to the almighty male gender and those of privilege and rank. She knows that she is just one person and in order to survive in her home she must hide her beliefs. She hates when people try and use their rank to boss her around but she doesn’t argue with people who really are more important than her. To her way of thinking, she doesn’t respect the dragonriders who don’t respect or protect those lower than them.
She believes that she is not pretty, so she normally doesn't care how she looks. However, she is a self-confident person because she considers her intelligence to be more important than her appearance. She is an emotionally stable, self-reliant and mature girl who knows what the current reality is and faces it calmly, if slightly unwillingly. She has learned to be vigilant and distrustful of everyone as well as solitary. She is free-thinking, and open to change, but is also compulsively organized. She is not her normal self in the morning, and is a little snippier with people when she first wakes up before she has had a cup of klah or washed her face. She does not get scared off by anything, or at least nothing yet. She sometimes has trouble seeing her limitations and sometimes will push herself to do things that she can’t do. She is not arrogant; she knows her place in the world and while not content with that, she knows she cannot change it. She avoids conflict whenever possible but has become thick-skinned against any criticism that comes her way.
She has trouble getting close to people, but when she does get to know someone she will begin to open up and is a sweet girl to be around. However, she doesn't really care what other people think of her, so when she is around people she can trust she doesn't normally bend to please others. She is still seeking out a person that can be her confidant.
Bronwynn is mostly interested in guys, however she realized she might not be opposed to female relationships (although she hides this from everyone). She has a problem trusting people, so any person that might be interested in her will have to work to win her trust. She isn’t someone for a one night stand and prefers to spend time getting to know the person she would be with before doing anything with them, but every once in a while if she knows someone well she will flirt. She knows that there has to be a better way than women just being used by men and wants to find out what that is and have it for herself.
The Mask She Wears:
When Bronwynn is around people she doesn’t know and doesn’t trust she puts off a distant, reserved and impersonal attitude, never overstepping what everyone else considers her place. She is very rule-conscious, moralistic, and dutiful, as well as humble, obedient, and accommodating to the privilege. She is also vigilant and distrustful of everyone as well as self-reliant and solitary.
Birthplace: Fort Hold, although she was raised practically from birth at Fort Weyr.
Parents: Her mother was Anatara (died at Bronwynn’s birth) and her father was Bronzerider R’zic (who died in Threadfall after finding out about her), but she was raised by her Aunt Aislinn (who died in the human plague) and a ‘uncle’ Brownrider Q’ryn.
History:
Her mother and her aunt were twins by the names of Anatara and Aislinn who grew up in Ruatha Hold. Their father is a well respected breeder and Anatara followed her father’s footsteps in the runner business, practically unheard of. Her uncommon success caught the attentions of a beastcrafter Master (who was about 38 turns to Anatara’s 15). She was pushed into marrying him by her father, who wanted her to leave the runner business to the men. Anatara was unhappy in her marriage, however, when her husband passed away only about 5 years after the wedding she did grieve. After he passed away, Anatara turned over the Ruatha runner business back to her father and went to live in Fort Weyr with her sister Aislinn. At the next Fort Hold Gather, Anatara bought a fine new dress and dancing slippers. There she met a young bronzerider, named R’zic who was also from Fort Weyr, with whom she had an amazing night. Anatara later realized she was pregnant but she died during Bronwynn’s birth. Just before Anatara died she confessed to Aislinn the identity of Wynn’s father. When Wynn was left motherless Aislinn took in her niece.
Aislinn had previously been living in her weyrmate’s (Q’ryn) weyr but after taking in Bronwynn, she moved back into the Lower Cavern so that he would not have to deal with the baby. After Anatara’s death, Aislinn asked Q’ryn to keep Anatara’s things safe in his weyr, which Wynn completely understood and so she left them in Q’ryn’s weyr also. Once weaned, Aislinn took back over Wynn’s care, and so it was that Wynn grew up in the lower caverns of the Weyr, assisting her Aunt (who was an Senior Apprentice Tailor) in the weyr laundry as well as having an interest in runners (like her mother, it must run in her blood) and spending almost half her time taking care of the weyr’s runners. Aislinn made sure to impart the less hide-bound teachings she had grown up with to her young niece, teachings that if anyone had found out were being taught Aislinn would have ‘disappeared’ like others had. Aislinn taught Wynn how to respect and believe in herself, but she also taught her niece how to be unnoticed and slightly pass for a boy (at least at first look if she were not under closer scrutiny).
She grew up with her Aunt and so she was told stories every night before bed about her mother. Not knowing who her father was bothered her severely, but she had no one to ask who would know, as Aunt Aislinn had already (falsely) told Wynn that she didn’t know. Auntie always told Wynn that she was the spitting image of her mother, but Wynn looks at the picture in her locket that she always wears, which is one of the few things she has of her mothers, and does not see that much of a resemblance (although that might be because she thinks her mother is beautiful but doesn’t think of herself as pretty at all).
One bright star in her life is Q’ryn who was Aislinn’s weyrmate throughout Wynn’s whole life. Q’ryn is a brownrider who first lived and impressed in Southern (impressing when he was only 12 and then transferring to Fort when he was 16), however he put in for a transfer before the Fort occupation, having heard of Fort’s ideals and deciding he liked them a bit better than Southern’s relaxed ideals. This is the only experience of having a father-like figure Wynn had and from the first he treated Wynn like she was his daughter. It was on Wynn’s 10th birthday, that Q’ryn gave Wynn a firelizard egg in the hopes that the flit would protect her. Q’ryn had received a couple of eggs from one of his old friends at Southern Weyr and did not keep either of them; the green went to Wynn and the brown went to Aislinn. Wynn’s egg hatched a beautiful jade colored green who was promptly given the name of Jade. The green flit has become Wynn’s closest friend and she can only imagine how much better actually having a dragon would be.
Wynn survived this far, with the help of the protection Q’ryn offered, by staying unseen and out of trouble and thus passed her first 15 years. She never really made many friends, although she does have a couple, and has never had any relationships that might be serious either. All was going fine until the plague hit. The plague took Aislinn from Wynn’s life, but before Aislinn died she finally confessed to Wynn who her father really is, begging forgiveness for not telling her earlier (which Wynn granted). After Aislinn’s death Q’ryn still offered to protect her as his ‘daughter’, which she accepted. But life goes on….and so does Wynn.
Wynn met her real father and her half-brother at a Hatching Feast, and not long after that she became a tailor apprentice under Journywomen Siardan, making it necessary for Bronwynn to dress fashionably as directed to by JW Siardan. At a Gather, once Wynn began to dress to be noticed as a female (helped by makeovers from both Ambrelli and goldrider Siardan), Wynn caught the attention of bronzerider K’sin. Their relationship progressed quickly yet secretly, but it wasnt until Wynn’s father R’zic died in Threadfall that their relationship became public and they Weyrmated. After politics affected K’sin and his ability to protect her because of his ‘supposed’ disrespect of a goldrider and a public whipping, K’sin and Wynn decided it would be safe for her to go for some extra training in South Boll for a bit while things died down. This decision was reinforced as a good thing when a few months after arriving Wynn sent a message back to K’sin that she was pregnant.
Not long after their son’s birth (which K’sin was there for) the bronzerider brought his family back to Fort Weyr, just a short month before the new goldrider arrives. It was just a bit over 2 months after the new goldrider’s lover died that K’sin told Wynn about an ‘incident’ with the goldrider where she’d thrown herself at K’sin, clearly deep in her cups and desperately emotional. Neither of them could have predicted what would happen as a result of K’sin’s response to the goldrider when that incident happened.
Things of her Mother’s that she has: a locket necklace, the Gather dress and slippers her mother was wearing when she met Wynn’s father, and a diary of her mother’s.
