B'dalin and Green Sydeliath
Played By: Cymiri
Character Name: B’dalin
Pronunciation: Be-dal-in
Character Type: Dragonrider
Rank: Wingrider
Political Alignment: Neutral
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Sexual Preference: Bisexual
Appearance:
B'dalin has honey-warm brown eyes, but a pale sunshine blonde hair that makes for a striking contrast. He wears the hair as long as he can get away with- and then some. He is a tall man, but with a boyish build that irks him. His skin is pale, tans easily, peels even more easily and you can trace the veins on the pressure points. His ears stick out a little, but it is endearing.
It works for him. He has appeal, more likely through sheer magnetism then actual good looks- which, as noted, he doesn't have. He accentuates it with a wardrobe that tends to the risqué if not downright odd.
Personality:
Flamboyant? Why, what made you guess...
Actually, he is perfectly capable of being serious, of working hard and being studious when motivated. He is also capable of being a one man riot. It is best to keep his active and quick thinking brain productively engaged. Or he finds productivity for it.
B'dalin, though, is in no way camp. Despite habits and wardrobe, he seems to manage to tread the dubious line well enough that it often surprises people to find out he has any kind of attraction for men too. Truth is, he likes interesting people. Dull people bore him. And when bored... chaos ensues. Wit and wisdom are always going to be more of a draw-card then looks or anything else.
B'dalin started life less then privileged, and his quick wits and clever tongue learnt to manifest themselves as a cheat and a con instead of anything more productive. It is hardly surprising he ended up with the lifestyle he did. He has limits though. They are odd limits...he thinks a lot of people need to get real, and if they don't and consequences occur it is their own darn fault. But there are certain lines beyond which he gets uncomfortable, and further ones he won't cross at all...some of which he won't even admit to himself. He has an absolute *need* for mental stimulation, and one had best hope now he has found his dragonic lifepartner, he also finds himself stimulated and occupied. Or things could get rather stifling for him. And he has a wickedly vindictive temper to boot.
But why worry about that now? He managed to con his way from nothing to the harper hall then the Weyr and a candidate position and ultimately the back of a dragon. For now it is enough.
Yeah right.
Birth Place: Igen Hold
Parents: Bea, laundress and Landin, a farmer. The land and the farm are his only duty and his only interest
History:
Bealdin is one of 5. The eldest girl is now married to a cotholder, and the other 3 seem content to step into their parent's footsteps and drudgery. Only Beanne, the youngest, has any kind of spark of her brother about her.
B'dalin has a slightly shady chapter to his past. Who are we kidding? It is only 'slightly' because he rarely got caught, and never for anything worth more than a smack on the hand. As a young to middle teen, falling in with the wrong crowd at gathers, he made a more then competent and confident trickster of himself. It was a challenge for a mind under stimulated by a rural backwater for a home, and plodding, dutiful parents and siblings.
It was also compensating for a lot he will never admit- B'dalin has always been too awkward for the people around him, and he has never felt like he fitted in anywhere. His response varies from doing his best to not fit in at all, to appearing to fit in absolutely and relishing every inch he secretly doesn't. It has never been to try and fit in better.
Things naturally only got worse from there, and he has pushed drugs and more. He grew up along the line and tired of it though, especially as serious crime really doesn't suit him- he likes challenges, he likes to feel the fizz of adrenaline when it is just him and his wits. He *doesn't* like active cruelty and hardcore crime.
He was lucky. A harper saw potential in him and put him forward for the hall and a chance to escape his poor upbringing and his past. He never did get away from it completely though. He was too useful to throw away entirely. But he was at least able to go back to the stuff that he liked...it was too dangerous to risk a good contact on the other stuff, after all.
Even the Harper hall couldn't hold his attention though- hence the risk taking. He also developed quite a reputation for teasing the weaker and slower. If he had had better and more interested teachers, he might have made a talented addition to harper rank- he has a lovely singing voice- but instead he was somewhat ignored. And his past still clung to his coat tails more then he liked.
He seems to have bluffed the searchrider that picked him well enough. What started as a tentative possibility that someone in the crowd around them might have what it takes to impress ended up as Bealdin being a sure-fire impressionable candidate in the dragon and man's mind.
This wasn't wrong, of course. His first time on the sands he walked away with the laid back, quirky Sydeliath as part of the 8.20.07.02 PrizeQuester's clutch. She is exceedingly unlikely to make his life easy, but then he doesn't like his life easy anyway. And she brings him two things he craves- a knowledge of what it is actually like to be truly loved, and the perceived security of being a dragonrider and another step removed from his poor upbringing and those who never got the chances he did at something better.
Of course, that's a green dragon rider at Fort, but that is a whole set of different challenges and for the moment they don't worry him.
These days he walks a fairly honest path- he still can't resist deploying the same set of skills every now and again, but it's for amusement now, not monetary gain. His position as candidate was too dubious to risk more, and with a weyrling dragonet he is just to busy.
The past did come knocking, just once, during his candidacy. His dealer friends wanted revenge on the candidate who snitched out their stash. Since the girl in question was Sofie, with whom a relationship that had been fairly genial at the Hall itself had turned somewhat nasty when they met again at the Weyr, he went along with it. It didn't end well for his old friends, and only his quick tongue got him out of there at all.
Which leaves him and bronzerider C'wyn in a very odd place. Fortunately, Impression came up- and so far nothing else. Though B'dalin holds a bitter, bitter grudge against the man for what happened to his 'friends'.
Even more oddly, he has found himself with a protective fondness of the gold candidate Kinara- bizzare given that he spent her time at the Hall using her as target practice. He was tutoring her in self defence and the simple art of lying, since he knows there is a story there that she isn't hiding well. But then a goldflight happened.
B'dalin has lots of lovers. He has next to no true friends. He hasn't properly dealt with blurring those lines with someone he treasures.
Graduation to the wings hasn't helped. Why Sydeliath seems content to fly to fight thread, she is continuing her weyrling 'protests' against violence and drilling. He's already got into trouble for it.

Sydeliath is a pale green dragon, like fresh growth on tree tips, and she will strangely always appears to be half asleep, even when totally awake. Her markings are certainly eyecatching however, with strands of emerald green trailing across her slender form, rather like jewelry.
Personality:
Essentially Sydeliath is a peaceful dragon, and she will never be quite comfortable with the notion of fighting Thread. Her rider will have to try and stop her staging protests against it in the Weyrling Barracks, and later out in the bowl. Sydeliath will be quite content to sit there in protest for candle-marks, even days. She's already caused her rider hassles. While she fights thread with all the concentration of a dainty little fighter, progress from weyrlinghood, she still rebels against the culture of violence at Fort and the drills she believes foster it.
She will also disagree with the disgust attached to green-riders, and the social stigmas that the brown and blue riders face if they want to sleep with a greens rider. For her, mating is beautiful and should be partaken of whenever and with whomever they like, without being confined. As such this green will rise often, flirt always and restrain herself never.
