Arlena
Played By: Mya
Character Name: Arlena
Pronunciation: ar-LAYN-uh
Character Type: Candidate
Rank: Candidate
Political Alignment: Establishment
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Appearance:
5 foot-8, with most features being what one would consider broad, Arlena's no fragile person compared against other females. Nor does she come across as masculine. Smooth, cream-colored skin and feminine curves in possession of B-cup sized cleavage make her an image of beauty. Her face alone shows the truth: she's strong boned, not muscular. A distinct power that's not unfeminine can be seen in her jaw's firmness, high-cheekbones and the strong, unerringly straight nose. Darkening her expression, thick lashes frame the green eyes while around her face is a thick, blonde halo. She keeps the strands cut between mid-neck to collarbone with the bottoms curling about in an appearance that seem quite lightweight. There are no bangs just hair on either side hiding her ears as well as her neck.
Personality:
Fort expectations center on male children, however, since her father rode a brown, Arlena was raised with some standards. She understands her place's too low for arrogance, nor so low she can compromise her standards. Blue, or green, female riders are beneath her; they're freaks whom need no more encouragement at being improper and acknowledging them isn't dignified. Toward others she's outspoken with no fear present as, being Fort raised, her instinct about what's acceptable is well-honed, needing no second guessing.
Few earn her friendship despite her social nature, she protects her standing more and even the slightest reason would make her push most away. Lesser borns, male or female, will stir her jealousy if they snag something which should've been beyond their reach. Not well-known for humor or patience, her clever and resourceful mind stands out instead. Missing tools won't mean she must pause her task, she uses whatever's around with confidence she'll work something out from it. This isn't really something she can exercise much around Fort.
Birthplace: Fort Weyr
Birthdate: Month 10. Day 14. Turn 3
Parents: Brownrider G'murri and Laundry Worker Aenase
History:
Arlena was conceived during the almost three month relationship between her parents, a relationship ending when her mother discovered her pregnancy. Not ready for children Aenase faced her pregnancy in a hostile fashion which brought about her separation from G'murri. The reason Aenase even carried Arlena to term was because Aenase couldn't stomach killing an unborn child, or risking a brownrider's wrath. Once Arlena was born, Aenase found she cared about the child now that she wasn't giving her morning sickness or kicking random direction inside her stomach.
At first Aenase was too ashamed to face the baby she'd carried. G'murri saw Arlena first, several months later Aenase began making herself known to the child too. Each restday saw Aenase visiting her child so Arlena grew up knowing both parents, more so Aenase but her first word had been 'da'. When she was older her mother informed her she'd not been wanted until after the birth. Knowing that at age six must've affected her because, though she'd always been somewhat hesitant over what worth her friendship held, she distanced herself more from others. It was more important being proper than to have friends.
Once almost old enough for Candidacy, she continued keeping outsiders, those are non-family members, somewhat distant and doesn't let them into her heart. The plague, however, left her fighting sicknesses and exhaustion, so she couldn't join Candidacy before the Gold Egg hatched. The moment she recovered from her sickness she didn't wait for anything else that might've kept her from Candidacy.
She's not found worthy rivals among her fellow Gold Candidates. Ardany would've been a close second if Arlena hadn't deemed her too male focused. In the first Goldflight after she became a Candidate her father's brown won the Weyrleader position. No one's given her trouble despite the commotion that caused. She allied herself with Saerennryll, whom Impressed from that clutch, just in case. They've stayed in contact but she's now met the brownbanded Sobotel.
She and Sobotel, S'tel of brown Arnheth after the PrizeQuesters hatched, became close and more so once the brownrider graduated. Several sevendays after their private celebration she started having symptoms, like headaches. It turned out she was pregnant. Before then she had several arguments between her and other female Candidates, including one that lead her into deciding that even Kadee couldn't be considered proper. That left just herself as the actual proper female in the group. The baby was eventually born, a male named Sarlten, but since Arlena remained a Candidate he went into the creche. The fact there were female Candidates still astonished her considering what low opinion she had about them. She certainly wasn't impressed over the fact that Fort now has Southern people in it's midst.
